Great quote!

"Mind you, I'm not totally against workbooks -- I just would never, ever, want to limit my children's education to filling in someone else's blanks."

Simple Woman's Daybook January 18, 2010

Would you like to linger on the simple things? Then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'.

For Today, January 18th....

(It's been awhile since I've done this...I am excited to be back!)

Outside my window...dusk after a beautiful, sunny, warm day

I am thinking...that I need to not look at the supposedly greener grass and start blooming where I am planted.

I am thankful for...my best friend of a husband who is my anchor amidst the chaos.

From the learning rooms...they are all closed down for tonight.

From the kitchen... the microwave is rapidly reheating Fancy Macaroni and Cheese ala Pioneer Woman. Brittany cooked it for us last night.

I am wearing...capri sweats and a long sleeve black t-shirt

I am creating...a Christmas present (still last Christmas) for Tarry. Can't say what it is, obviously. I am about half-way done. :-)

I am going...to keep praising the Lord.

I am reading...Try Darkness by James Scott Bell, Becoming the Woman I Want to Be by Donna Partow, some coupon books and various other things I am reading parts and pieces of.

Pondering these words...The love of God has been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit, and His love abides in me richly. I keep myself in the Kingdom of light, in love, in the Word; and the wicked one touches me not. (Rom. 5:5; 1 John 4:16; 1 John 5:18)

I am hearing... my own voice telling Kaedra to stop fussing!

Around the house...mostly picked up, mostly quiet, mostly winding down for the night.

One of my favorite things...tall girls who were supposed to be midgets.  (see Kaedra's story)

A few plans for the week...a webinar tomorrow night about couponing, lots of school, training the kids...nothing really exciting

A picture thought I am sharing...

I miss my niece Sherria!

Thankful for this If/Then Chart from Doorposts and a chance to work on
it with Michael. Now we have a clear cut plan for what to do when the
kids misbehave. Thank the Lord. :-)

January 16

Not feeling well today...thankful for the technology that can come to me and I can still be semi-productive.

More blessings

Haven't taken pictures for the past few days (drat!) but I haven't forgotten the assignment. I have thought about the pictures, just haven't gotten them taken!

-Wednesday night Michael and I had a date and I was blessed by having time alone with hubby.

-Thursday I had a WHOLE day off, thanks to my wonderful hubby. I had breakfast and ran some errands with Brittany, I got my hair cut and colored (got a spa treatment card for Christmas), and had a Mom's Night Out with my favorite three local ladies. It was a wonderful day and I got NO pictures!

-Friday was a day off with hubby, and I wanted to take his picture, because I am so grateful to him, but it never got done.

So...those are the things I am thankful for, sans pictures. Of course, that's not really the point of Project 365 in general, but it is VERY much the point of my particular Project 365. :-)

Love my silly family and our times around the table together. Michael has been working a lot of nights, so we haven't had too many lately, but they are so much fun!

Painting by Brittany

Thankful for all of Brittany's talents (including painting) but most thankful for the joy of a teenager that she is. She blows all the myths away!

January 9 - Crown of Thorns

Crown of Thorns

Underneath our Christmas Tree we always have a nativity. Of course, this is to remind us of the story of Jesus' birth, which we are celebrating with Christmas. However, atop our tree, sits a crown of thorns.  This is so we don't stop with His birth but we remember the most important thing of all....Jesus' sacrifice for us.

When I saw the crown of thorns today, I knew I was going to take a picture of it for what I was thankful for. I was sitting at my table, trying to decide how I could best show it off for the picture.  But then I thought....it really doesn't need to be shown off. This is more realistic.  Jesus' death was ugly, messy and the most impossibly beautiful thing in the whole world.  And His presence is right smack in the middle of my ugly, messy life, turning it into something beautiful too.

Brother/sister cuddles!

Why the Plethora of Pictures?

To increase my awareness of my blessings and the things I am thankful for, I have decided to do Project365
(take a picture everyday for a year) with a particular bent towards those things. I don't guarantee that I will get a picture a day, but I am sure going to try.  My pictures won't necessarily be frame-worthy, some won't have captions, some will, and most of them will be taken with my iphone, but I am sure to be able to see ALL the blessings I have when I review them!

Hopefully you will enjoy seeing the pictures as well...a little slice of our life. :-)
