1958 Windjammer: Kari Waits For Me

I am so excited! this is the song where my parents got my name! There was a song called "Kari Waits for Me" in a 1958 Movie called Windjammer. I haven't been able to find any old copies of the movie or the song. I looked it up on a lark tonight on Youtube and found it!

(technical note: my parents put an "h" in the name to make it "Kahri" hoping that Americans would pronounce it with the "ah" sound instead of the long "a" sound. It didn't work.)

My name is Melody and I live in Portland Oregon. I used to be "Melody Miller" I'm the daughter of Frank Miller - he WROTE "KARI WAITS FOR ME"!!!!!! and he's alive and well in North Carolina!

I always loved that song so much. I forgot I think it was named after Rich Dehr's daughter (he was also in the group) Terry Gilkyson was also in "The Easy Riders" but my Dad sued him for copyrights on many songs, cause Terry claimed rights to them and most people think Terry wrote most of the stuff.

The band "The Easy Riders" traveled with the sailors in the movie "The Windjammer" on "The Christian Radich" sailing ship - and went around the world into different ports playing music with the native peoples'

Here's a great website:

have fun!!! I'm on Facebook if you need me at:

My name is Kaari. I was also named for the song. My parents added the second a (like in aardvark) to help with the pronounciation. It didn't help either. I always like finding people with the same name as me, and it is awesome that it came from the same place!

My name is Kari. My parents named me after they heard the song & watched the movie. They are Danish, Kari is a Norwegian name for a girl. Or a boys name if you're Finnish. Interesting people had the same idea from all around the world!
