Spring Haekelbeutel

After making my mom her Haekelbeutel, I decided to whip myself one up really quick. I decided on some spring colors and a little larger than my mother's.




I also added a pocket to the liner (yup, I am getting more detailed each time! LOL) and two pockets to the outside (I just made extra squares and sewed them to the outside squares). Then I crocheted and felted a purse organizer to keep everything in place inside.






I am really happy with the results, but I do learn something new everytime and will make some changes next time! :-) I am hoping to make one for each season, so I will have a chance to get practice.

Tarry's doily

One of my closest friends, Tarry, has her birthday on April Fool's Day. I wanted to make her a doily for her birthday. As you can see, I am very late, but I did get it done and it came out really well! Of the two doilies I have made, this is my favorite! I love how it looks, feels and lays. I will definitely be making more of these. I think I may experiment with colors a little more. (I think the pinapples could look like strawberries if I did the colors correctly)

Doily for Lisa

I made this doily for my friend Lisa. She has a wonderful cookbook and wonderful blog for people trying to watch their carbs. I didn't have any idea it would be this big! It was all crumpled up while I was making it and didn't really "un-fold" to this size until I blocked it! It was my first doily, so I am especially proud of it!

Haekelbeutel done

It is with a sad heart that I parted with this item. I LOVE it!! It came out so cute, a great size and I even lined it!!!! I really hope my mom loves it as much as I do! (I will find out tomorrow when I call for her birthday) The only thing I would have done is put some pockets in, but I was already testing my skills just by lining it! Hopefully everytime I make one, I will be able to improve.If you click on this one, you can see the cute button.

Mary Janes

I did a Crochet-along with my neice, Sherria. We decided to make these Mary Jane slippers. I had a lot of fun Crocheting with her and I love my finished product! I will post pictures of hers when I can!

Star Overlay Square

Made this square for some sisters on my Ravelry Secret Sister group whose parents lost everything in a fire. We are hoping to bless them with this afghan.



I got the pattern from Chris Simon's Page.

I am hoping to make one more to send to them too. It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed doing this square.

I am going to make an afghan to commemorate my losing weight too. I think I am going to make one 12" square for every 10 lbs. I lose. I want to make a sampler, so it will give me a chance to try out lots of neat patterns. :-)

Thursday thirteen

I know I've been quiet. Been working on stuff and posting it on Ravelry! I just love that place.

Thirteen things I have been working on:

1. I was working on something for my hubby for Valentine's Day but it didn't work out AT ALL like I wanted it. I ended up frogging the thing FOUR times! And I still never got the look or feel that I wanted! I have shelved the project and am going to go back to it when I can bear to look at it again. I am now planning on having it done by Christmas.

2.
Making an afghan for Victory Junction Gang Camp. They have a program where each camper gets to take their afghan home. How cool is that! This pic was taken when I had first started the blanket. It is much bigger now. I am trying to get it done in the next 2 months. I would like to make 3 a year for them.

3-5.

Been making these roses lately. Made one for a friend of my parents' that has been sick for over a year. Made one for one of our nurses. Made one for my not-so-secret sister. I really like them! They work up quickly, they are pretty and they can be used for many different things! I got the pattern for the rose here and the leaves here.

6. Made this wire bracelet for my not-so-secret sister. You can't really tell but it is pink and black. It has a glass rose bead in the front.

7.

Made this one for me! :-) It has a "joy" charm and a star on it and is two different shades of purple. I have had the beads forever but finally sat down and made it. I love it. It is perfectly "me!"

8.
I have crocheted a few hats this last few months for myself and NONE of them looked good on me. Turns out I pretty much only look good in bucket hats or baseball hats. Made this one from this pattern and I really like the results. Now I have a hat for those bad-hair days! :-)

9.

I had a scarf pattern I REALLY wanted to try. When I started working on it, I felt God leading me to make it for a friend of mine whose husband recently lost his job. I prayed the whole time I made it for her. So, instead of a prayer shawl, I ended up making her a prayer scarf. The pattern is from the latest Interweave Crochet Magazine. It is called a mitered scarf. You can see the colors better here:

10. I loved my friend's scarf so I decided to make one for myself too! :-)

11. My not-so-secret sister sent me beautiful squares to make a Haekelbeutel bag with. I pieced them together the other night! I just need to line it and make the straps. You can't tell in this pic, but it is pieced with sage green. I think I am going to line it with the same color and do a row of single crochet around the top, attaching the straps, to tie it all together.


12. I recently bought this pattern to make Kaedra a dinosaur. I haven't technically started it yet, but it is in the works.

13. My not-so-secret sister and I are making this afghan for Kaedra and Ethan.



So that's what I've been working on!

Babette Frustration

I didn't like the way my babette was looking. I decided it needed to be blocked. I took it all apart.
and blocked it the other night, all nice and pretty, using rulers and even a yard stick. You would think it would be PERFECT, right?



So I go to stitch parts one and two together and they don't add up right?!?!?! ARGH. I put it aside for a few days. I am too disgruntled to try to work on it right now.

Ipod Hoodie

I saw this cute Ipod Hoodie on my friend Karen's list of to-dos. I knew right away that Brittany would LOVE it! I had Britty pick out here favorite yarn and then set to making it. She wanted some modifications: a strap so she could wear it around her neck and a pocket in the back so she could put her wires in it. It came out so cute! I love it! (and so does Britty!!)

Babette news

I have started putting it together! WOOHOO!! inspired by Heather's pictures of her pieced together Babette, I worked on my 12 round and 2 8 rounds so I could at least get the first few sections done. I started last night and had to call Heather after only a few minutes. My squares weren't lining up right. She explained that I would have to stretch some of them to make them work. AHA! The lightbulb went on. Okay, that makes sense. So now I have sections 1-3 completely done and I am working on section 4. I will post pics soon.

Brittany's blanket is looking great too! She started on her 12 round last night. She is looking forward to starting to put hers together too.

Granny Square Addict

Okay, I think I am a Granny Square Addict. I like almost everything made of Granny squares! Especially the things that aren't usually made from them like purses, mittens, hats, aprons, sweaters, etc. I am working on some Granny square fingerless mittens today. They are so cute! I will post a picture as soon as they are done.

Okay, maybe not all Granny squares.....

Beginnings of Babette Blanket

My Babette Colors

I chose these colors for my Babette blanket. Brittany decided to make one also and she is using similar colors. Her only difference are, she is using brown and not the red and not the dark green. I have already done 10 little squares and 2 small squares. It is loads of fun!

Anyone want to make one with us? We are just using colors from our stash (which admittedly is larger than usual after making all our Christmas presents!)

Late to the party

Okay, while browsing Crochet Blogs, I found this post about a Babette Blanket. Apparently they were quite popular a few years ago. I know I am late to the party, but I am going to make one! I am so excited about how they look and how much fun they look to make! It took me awhile of searching to find the pattern, they are available at Interweave.com in a PDF file for $6.00. I can't wait to get started! It also looks like the perfect thing to work on a little at a time, in between other projects!

Amigurumi Creations

I wanted to crochet presents for my best friend and her family. She has 7 kids so Amigurumi seemed perfect for some of them! I already had decided to make their youngest an alien. I had fallen in love with this little guy and had to make it for someone!



I asked her what her other youngest boys' favorite animals were. I got Monkey and Hippo. YEAH! I love both of those animals. I found only two hippo patterns and decided on this one. I think he came out really cute:

I found a few free patterns for monkeys and few cute patterns to buy. I also got two books that had patterns of monkeys. I started one but didn't end up liking him very much. (although we had lots of fun hitting people over the head with a detached monkey arm! And the kids use his arm as a microphone now) I finally decided to mix and match my favorite parts of patterns and add a few of my own things. I ended up REALLY REALLY becoming fond of this guy. He was hard to send away. :-) I will have to make another one for our family real soon! LOL

Easy, Quick, Mindless Poncho...did I mention Cute?

I found a few ponchos and shawls that I wanted to make for Kaedra (my 4 year old), but I really needed something that was easy, quick and mindless. Something I could do while doing thirty other things. I found this pattern:



I did it with an "h" hook but kept almost everything else the same. I didn't put the fun fur at the top because I didn't want it inhibiting her trach. It came out great! I can't wait to take a picture with her in it. (but that will have to be after Christmas!)
